Mammoth contributes to Open Source Community

Mammoth continues to pursue the latest in web technology utilising the best products and tools that the webs open source community has to offer.

Some recent projects have highlighted the advantages of using the .NET framework and, but in particular, the use of open source ‘starter kits’. Why re-create something that has already been done by someone else before? This allows for an overall reduction in cost to deliver, and facilitates creativity by allowing additional features to be created that can enhance a users online experience.

For more information on .NET example starter kits, go to:

Microsoft Starter Kits and Community Projects

One particular open source starter kit Dash Commerce is especially worth mentioning as I have been working with it extensively over the last 12 months. Dash Commerce provides you with enough of a structure to get you started and lets you figure out how to take it to the next level. It comes with Provider-based classes that can easily be ‘plugged-in’ to enable new or altered functionality.

One great example of this functionality is the coupon based system. Out of the box, the site will allow you to create a code that can be used to get a discount off of your shopping cart’s sub total. If, however, you want a coupon that can only apply discounts to an individual product or perhaps any products that are within a particular category or made by a particular manufacturer, the developer can simply extend the base coupon class and create a new coupon ‘provider’ that calculates the discount based on a different set of parameters.

Mammoth, having already gone to these lengths, has built, tested and implemented some such Coupon Providers and has provided them back into the Open Source Community (currently under review with Dash Commerce).

For developers looking for any such types of coupon provider classes, feel free to contact me directly, or check out the Dash Commerce website for updates.

Joel Reubenstein’s Gallery Opening

Mammoth has continued to provide expert web services and solutions to author, journalist and photographer Joel Reubenstein. His reubenstein.com website has been updated to feature an image gallery, showcasing a selection of black & white and colour images taken over the past two decades.

Aside from the aesthetic upgrades to reubenstein.com the new site has added functionality, with admin options now extending to changing and uploading home page banners and footers.

“As an author and photographer, it was always going to be a challenge to come up with a web solution that could incorporate a first class front-end design with a wide range of back-end features that allow me to create and upload written content, on my own, from anywhere in the world.”

“Traffic to reubenstein.com has increased by almost 40% since the upgrade, it’s been a very valuable process; and the flexibility of Mammoth’s approach has given me a site with maximum graphic impact and maximum user functionality,” says Joel Reubenstein about the new site.

Mammoth goes Behind the Scenes

Mammoth Technology has continued its expansion into film-making with another short film titled “Polaroid Pursuits”.

This time round though, Mammoth had a 2nd film crew shooting behind the scenes to capture the film making process and the effort spent by over 30 professionals.

Cameraman, Jolyon Ansuz commented “It’s easy for people to enjoy a short film and never realise just how much effort goes into making a 7 minute film.” He said “the Behind the Scenes documentary really captures everyone’s contribution to the film and helps to highlight why film making is such a time-consuming process. You clearly need to be passionate about it, like Michael is in order to stick it out “.

“Polaroid Pursuits” and its documentary “A Snapshot Behind the Scenes” are currently being submitted to local and international film festivals with the possibility of the films eventually being aired on commercial TV. Keep an eye out for them.

Mammoth Movie Making

Mammoth Technology continues to broaden its horizons with its first foray into film-making. In collaboration with, Sydney-based author and television producer, Joel Reubenstein, Mammoth produced, shot and edited “Who’s Your Daddy?”

“Who’s Your Daddy is a window into the intimate lives of seemingly disconnected characters and the many stories that bear witness to their souls and beings. One thread runs through those lives. One character sees all. One journey. One day. One film.”

In 2004 Mammoth Technology expanded its core function of web development and design and moved into video production. Mammoth offers a number of cost-effective and dynamic video solutions for both the corporate and private market.
